Aguadulce (Buenaventura, Colombia)
Read More »Aguadulce, located on Colombia’s Pacific coast across from the Port of Buenaventura, is currently under construction. International Container Terminal Services has committed to constructing the container-handling facility at Aguadulce and Inter-American Coal and its partner in this project, Muelles el Bosque, are developing a bulk handling facility for coal, grain, and general bulk cargoes. Once completed, the bulk capacity of the port will be four million tonnes per annum.

Puerto Capulco (Gamarra, Colombia)
Read More »Puerto Capulco, an inland port dedicated to handling coal and other bulk materials, is strategically located with direct access to the Magdalena River, a national highway, and the main rail line that runs from Bogotá to Santa Marta. The port is 315 miles from the ports in Barranquilla or Cartagena.
Inter-American Coal has a long-term concession for Puerto Capulco and is currently working to upgrade the existing facilities and surrounding infrastructure. Once fully operational, the facility will have capacity to handle up to 1.3 million tonnes of coal and one million tonnes of other bulk materials per annum. Puerto Capulco will significantly increase the company’s logistical capacity for exporting coal and coke from Colombia’s interior.

El Bajo (Maracaibo, Venezuela)
Read More »El Bajo has been in operation since 1984 and has been expanded and upgraded since it was acquired by Inter-American Coal in 1995. The facility covers 17 acres, which includes seven acres of coal storage. The port has a storage capacity of 150,000 tonnes and throughput capacity of 11,000 tonnes per day, approximately two million tonnes per annum. Coal is staged from the patio onto barges and then towed one kilometer to a shipping channel in Lake Maracaibo, where it is transloaded onto geared vessels of up to 45,000 DWT.

Palmarejo (Maracaibo, Venezuela)
Read More »Palmarejo is owned by Corpozulia, a Venezuelan-owned entity, and its operating characteristics are similar to IAC’s El Bajo port. Inter-American Coal is the operator of the port, which supplements IAC’s capacity at El Bajo.
